Nugent, who had only been with Luton since January, left to link up with Addicks boss Russell Slade once more, becoming the club’s assistant manager, a role had when the duo were at Leyton Orient.

Jones admitted he always knew there was a chance the pair would work together again and that plans are already formulating over a replacement.

He said: “It’s not really (a blow) as we wouldn’t have let him go if it was going to be.

“Kev has been a good servant for me since I’ve been here and in the interim before I was bringing in Paul Hart as he was one who knew the level and so on.

“I always knew there was a chance that when Russell got a job he would want to go with him and he goes with our blessing, no problem.

“Wheels are in motion to bring in one that I’d like to bring in, that will be different to what we have here.

“So we wish Kev all the best, he’s done well since he’s been here, but we always knew there’d be some sort of interest if Russell got a job.”
