Jones privileged to hand Musonda his pro debut

The 17-year-old, who has risen through the ranks after joining the Town academy in 2006, has been on the bench a number of times in recent weeks, but came on in stoppage time at the One Call Stadium.

Jones was quick to hand the acclaim to Luton’s U18s chief Paul Driver though as he said: “I’ve only seen a little bit about him, but he’s come with high hopes and Paul Driver is doing a fantastic job with those boys.

“I don’t quite want to take any credit for that because let’s be honest, Paul Driver has done all the work with him.

“Because of certain things it’s been forced that we brought him and to give him his debut is a nice touch and one that I’m in a very privileged position to be able to do because of how they’ve worked.”

A centre half by trade, Musonda came in for Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu with time ticking down and his few seconds came in an advanced midfield position.

However, he was involved immediately as Luton closed the game out confidently, with Jones adding: “It’s nice to make your debut as a youngster and we wanted to give him his debut as we’ve brought him up here, he hasn’t just come into make up the numbers.

“It’s probably not a position he’ll play many times but as you can see he got straight involved and that youth and enthusiasm helped us see out the game, so brilliant.”
