The 30-year-old was due to be involved in the squad for Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat against Crawley Town, only to pull out a few hours before kick off due to a tight hamstring.

Speaking to the press this afternoon, Jones said: “He’s better than what he was last week, it’s weird as he trained Friday no problem and then actually felt something walking across the car park.

“But we didn’t take any chances with him, we could have risked things, but we don’t.

“We’ve got a good squad, that’s the importance of having a quality squad is that when mishaps happen, and they do inadvertently happen, we can replace them with quality.

“He’s a lot closer now than he was last Saturday morning, so we’ll have to wait and see.

“We’ll leave it as late as possible before we pick the squad, so we’ll give him as long as possible.”

Winger Ryan Hall is out though, along with defender Scott Griffiths who has now returned from his loan spell at Woking, where he made three appearances.

Jones continued: “Ryan’s not available, we’ve had to rest him, he’ll be out for two or three weeks now as we had to take him back off rehabilitation and give him rest.

“Hopefully things will settle down, it’s unfortunate for him as since I’ve been here he’s a player I knew of before I came here, I know he’s a talented boy, but I’ve only managed to see him play for an hour or so.

“It’s frustrating but more frustrating for him.

“Scott’s back now too, again Scott’s got a little problem which might need sorting so we won’t see Scott for a little while either.”

There was better news regarding Josh McQuoid and Nathan Doyle though as Jones added: “They’re a lot closer, they’re ready to integrate back into training early on next week.

“That will be a boost having two more included, so hopefully we get them back as soon as possible.”
