Jones won't tolerate defensive errors

After waiting for almost an hour to break down struggling Hartlepool at the weekend through Cameron McGeehan’s penalty, Hatters almost immediately handed the advantage back to their visitors, with Adam Jackson outjumping skipper Scott Cuthbert from a corner to level the scores.

Although Town did eventually go on to win through Craig Mackail-Smith’s late strike, a frustrated Jones said: “It shouldn’t get to that beforehand as it’s too easy for them to get into that situation and then we’ve conceded from a set play which is something we have to get out of our play.

“Because we can’t work so hard to get the lead with a side who sits back in their own half and then give them something to cling on to again.

“We can’t do that. I’m disappointed with that, really disappointed if I’m honest. However, that gave them (Luton) an opportunity to show a bit of character and come back to win the game, and I’m pleased because I think we’ve overcome something.”

There were some protests from the Luton defenders who felt Jake Howells had headed Jackson’s attempt off the line, but Jones wasn’t overly interested in those, preferring to see his side cut off the goal at its source.

He added: “I’ll see it again, there might be some complaints, but they might have some complaints about the penalty and so on and so forth.

“We shouldn’t be in that situation where just a basic hang up ball and someone dominates our centre half. We can’t have that and we won’t have that, otherwise we’ll replace some people.”
