Kennoy rolls back the years as he nets in Rovers friendly win

FOOTBALL: Barton Rovers manager Dan Kennoy rolled back the years to score the winner in a pre-season friendly against Cogenhoe on Saturday.

Rovers went into the half-time break 1-0 up thanks to a goal from Jermaine Hall midway through the half.

The second half saw the introduction of Piero Bagarone, James Edgerley and Sean Brettel. Bagarone was straight into the action driving an effort at the post as Rovers looked to extend their lead.

Having used all their substitutes the referee would not allow anyone that had taken part in the game already to come back on. So when Hall pulled up with an injury with 10 minutes left to play, manager Kennoy dusted off his boots to show his side how it is really done. And it was not long until he had his chance. Ricky Case rolled a pass through to his manager and Kennoy chipped the onrushing keeper to make the score 2-0.

It was a moment to savour for Kennoy and he will be hoping his side can follow his lead as the new season approaches.

Last night Rovers were set to entertain Bedford Town in their first home pre-season at Sharpenhoe Road.

Rovers got to Coalville in a friendly on Saturday and start their Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central campaign at home to Chertsey Town on Saturday, August 18.
