Barton Rovers picked up their first Southern League Division One Central win of 2015 by comfortably defeating North Greenford 2-0 at the weekend,

The hosts created two good chances in the opening 10 minutes for Javani Brown and Rhys Hoenes, but they both failed to find the net.

Both teams were well organised on what was a difficult pitch and for much of the first half chances were limited to shots from outside the box.

In the second period, Rovers began to take hold of proceedings and some sharp interchanges.

Just before the hour mark Brown beat the North Greenford defence only to see his shot fly inches past the post.

The visitors’ Vitor Monteiro was a constant threat, with a fine array of passing , as he kept Barton’s defence on their toes for the whole game.

However, Barton had their second on 71 minutes as Hoenes picked up the ball on the halfway line and set off on a mazy run, beating four
players.

He then skilfully found man of the match Connor Vincent inside the box, who calmly stroked the ball into the net.

Rovers were due to host Stotfold in the North Beds Charity Cup first round last night, but the game was postponed

They now travel to AFC Hayes in the league at the weekend.
