A topsy-turvy clash saw Barton Rovers grab victory from the jaws of defeat with two late goals to triumph 3-2 at Uxbridge in FA Cup first round qualifying on Saturday.

Top scorer Nathan Peacock had stabbed Rovers ahead after 17 minutes, but the hosts looked to be progressing through after goals from Matt Woods (52) and Drake (75) had given them the lead.

However, Ricky Case (87) and Peacock (90+4) struck in the dying minutes to snatch victory, £3,000 in prize money and a place in the next round at home to Skrill South neighbours Boreham Wood.

The pair had drawn their opening Calor Southern League Division One Central meeting 1-1 and there were few goalscoring opportunities in a scrappy first half.

Barton’s superiority told on 17 minutes through when Peacock produced a lunging to turn home Jermaine Hall’s great cross in the six-yard box.

However, the second half was far livelier as the hosts levelled seven minutes in when Wood neatly finished one-on-one past keeper Kyle Forster.

Forster then had to make a couple of smart saves as Uxbridge pushed for a second, and they were rewarded with 15 minutes left to play as Drake slotted the ball under Forster’s body after a counter-attack from a Barton set piece.

It looked as if Barton’s FA Cup dreams may be over until Case got on the end of a great corner from man of the match Alex O’Brien to deftly head the ball into the far corner.

And more drama came in the fourth minute of injury time when Bilal Hassan’s shot rebounded to Peacock who smashed home a last-gasp winner to make it 13 goals in eight games.

Tonight Barton host St Ives Town in the league and on Saturday visit Slough Town.
