Late drama as Barton lose to Hanwell

Southern League Division One Central: Barton Rovers 0 Hanwell Town 1

Barton Rovers’ three game Southern League Division One Central unbeaten run came to an end after Hanwell Town’s last minute winner at Sharpenhoe Road on Saturday.

Rovers were not at the races in the first half as they could have trailed 4-0, only for keeper Kyle Forster to make some fine saves.

First he held Bradley Simmonds’ chip, while Danilson Vincente fired wide, although Rovers did come close themselves when James Bishop’s effort from range flew over.

Bishop was then denied by Martin Herdman and when the keeper did fumble Joe Reynolds’ corner, the danger was cleared away.

On the stroke of half time, Alex O’Brien saw his close range shot draw a fantastic stop from Martin as the teams turned around all square.

After the break, Forster did superbly to keep out Simmonds’ drive Barton did start to come back into it, however the keeper then felled Tom Inch, only to redeem himself by saving Michael Buckley’s penalty.

It looked like the hosts would hold on for a point, only for a needless free kick given away 30 yards out resulting in Tom Duffy heading home in the 91st minute to give Hanwell all the points.
