Lawless left with '˜goosebumps' after response from Hatters fans
Returning Alex Lawless admitted he had goosebumps with the reception he received from Luton Town fans after the 1-1 draw against Yeovil Town on Saturday.
Lawless, 31, left the club in the summer after spending over five years at Kenilworth Road, making 203 appearances in that time, but after being released in the summer, never had the chance to say his farewells to the supporters.
However, he did a mini lap of honour after the match, with all sides of the ground standing to applaud him off, as Lawless said: “I had goosebumps to be honest with you, it was huge.
“I had some great years here, the support I had was fab, so if I can get something like that at Yeovil I’d be very happy.
“It was strange, but obviously I tried to focus on the objective and that was for us to get a win of a result so it was very strange.”
Lawless felt his side deserved to come away with at least the point they garnered due to Tom Eaves’ second half equaliser.
He continued: “To do what we did in the second half and in all honesty, we’ve probably gone in there and felt disappointed we didn’t win it, which is huge and for a young team to be doing that is showing great signs.
“Because I’ve played in teams that have got so many experienced players and they don’t manage that, so that’s how big it is.”
Meanwhile, Glovers boss Darren Way added “I said to them, I don’t want anyone coming off the pitch and having big regrets, I don’t want this to turn into two, three or four and second half as although we had to deal with a little bit of adversity, I thought we should have won the game.
“We’ve gone up against a side that’s got to get promoted and that’s probably got a budget that’s twice the size of ours.
“So when I put all those things together and look at all the young players stepping up to the mark and handling this environment when a Premier League club (Aston Villa) couldn’t do it last Wednesday, that says to me we’re going in the right direction.”
