Luton Town Ladies boss Nikki Baker is relishing the opportunity for her side to take on Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup at the weekend.
The Hatters travel to their FA Women’s Premier League Southern Division opponents in the second round on Sunday, with the Seagulls currently top of the table.
Baker said: “I am really looking forward to the game, it will be a huge test for us playing Brighton who are sitting top of the league above us.
“It will be good to have an FA Cup run as it generates money and publicity for the club as well as excellent experiences for the players and staff involved.
“We have a good squad with some very young players but also a good mix of experienced squad members who have played at this level for a long time.
“Brighton will be the favourites but if we can contain them and be disciplined, and hit them in their weaker areas then I believe we can hurt them. It will be a good game and I am looking forward to it as are the players.”
Hatters themselves are enjoying a fine season themselves so far, as they are second in the South East Division One, five points behind Crystal Palace, albeit having played two games more.
It’s a position Baker is looking to nail down, as she added: “We have only been beaten three times, although lost a bit of form recently losing to MK Dons where we under performed.
“Other than that we have only lost to Crystal Palace who are running away with the league and to Gillingham where we were very unlucky.
“I hope for us to get back in form very quickly and perform to the level we should be. To finish second in the league will be a big achievement for us and this is in our sights and hopes.
“We are also in the County Cup quarter-finals where we take on Icknield.
“I would love for this young squad to finish second and to retain the County Cup, that is our aim.”
