Luton Town Ladies recorded their biggest win of the season as they dismantled Norwich City Ladies 8-2 in the FA Women’s Premier League South East Division One on Sunday.
The hosts actually fell behind early on, but were level instantly, when Lisa Nixon netted her first for the club, bending a superb shot into the top corner.
Zara Carroll’s header was cleared off the line, before Town were in front when Nicola Henman’s cross drifted straight in.
If that was unintentional, there was no doubt about her second, as she pounced on a loose ball, rounded the keeper and scored.
The fourth soon arrived when Jess McKay’s effort was blocked and she smashed the rebound home.
Keeper Amy Weedon had to tip over another Norwich effort, but Luton moved 5-1 in front when Amy Summerfield caressed Erica Byron’s corner into the net.
After the break, Carroll, who had been denied on a few occasions, made no mistake when McKay teed her up on the edge of the area.
Half time sub Joanne Rutherford showed tremendous courage to latch on to McKay’s whipped cross and get there just before the City keeper.
Norwich managed another consolation, but Luton certainly weren’t finished and there was sufficient time for Natasha Fensome to come off the bench and control Henman’s cross to find the bottom corner.
Luton host Harlow Town Ladies at Stockwood Park on Sunday in the Women’s FA Cup, kick off at 1pm.
