Town striker Elijah Adebayo was thrilled to see team-mate Harry Cornick finally break his duck for the campaign with the winner at Bristol City this afternoon.

The 26-year-old hadn’t been on the scoresheet since the 1-1 draw at Leeds United on June 30, 2020, some 45 appearances ago.

However, after coming on at half time against the Robins, with Town fighting back from 2-0 down to be level at 2-2 through James Collins and Adebyao himself, it was Cornick who won the game, turning sharply to find the net with 16 minutes to go once when Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's shot rebounded to him.

Adabyo said: “Corns has been fantastic, he's been up and down trying to gets assists and doing his work for the team and I'm delighted for him to get his goal for the team.

"He deserves it 100 per cent and hopefully he can kick on now and get as many as he can between now and the end of the season.

"Then he'll be back to hopefully better that again, but I'm delighted for him, he deserves it, he's a hard working player

Boss Nathan Jones was of the same opinion as his deadline day addition from Walsall, adding: "He’s been hung up on it as he hasn’t scored, people are.

"When I was an attacking left back I didn’t care if I scored or not, it was more about the team doing well, but strikers are selfish beasts, they went to score and he's deserved it.

"He's such a threat, he works hard, hes brilliant, every day he trains, and it hurts him, so I'm delighted.

"Hopefully now he's got three games left he can score some more."
