Agent Alan backs fit Hatters

Agent Alan Neilson has warned the Hatters to be wary of Ebbsfleet United’s battling team qualities when they visit Stonebridge Road on Bank Holiday Monday, writes Mark Wood.

The Hatters first host AFC Telford on Saturday, but Neilson was impressed by what he saw from the Fleet while on a reconnaissance mission at their 1-1 home draw against Wrexham.

He said: “They missed a penalty in the last five minutes and could have won 2-1.

“I saw a hard working side, they kept going. They looked out of the game when it was 1-0.

“One little mistake let them back in and they are a good side pushing forward.”

They also have a vociferous manager in Liam Daish as assistant boss Neilson continued: “Liam Daish was a hard centre-half and has got his team working the same way.

“He is a big person and a big stature. He is a passionate manager, we are all passionate and show it in different ways.”

Town have experienced mixed fortunes at Stonebridge Road, surrendering a 2-0 lead in a 2-2 draw last season and coming back from 1-0 down at half time to triumph 6-1 in 2010.

“We know it’s going to be a hard game. It showed last year being 2-0 up and conceding two goals in the last 15 minutes,”

“The year before we went 1-0 down and scored six in the second half.

“We don’t look in the past, we look to the future. We’ve got to work hard and be on top and defend properly.

“We know in this league that every game’s a hard game, but if we stick to our gameplan and with the players we’ve got, we will come out on top.”

With the visit of the Bucks coming just two days earlier, Neilson is confident Town’s slimline squad can cope and isn’t anticipating any major change.

He said: “We’ve got a small squad so it won’t be wholesale changes.

“We’ve gone with quality rather than quantity and development players this year.

“The lads are really, really, fit. In the last 20 minutes I think we’ve been the stronger side in games.”

On the back of a good result, Neilson is also hoping Telford won’t just come to defend on Saturday, adding: “They played Braintree last Saturday and won 3-0, scored three goals and kept a clean sheet.

“We are at home and will take the game to them. A lot of teams come and sit back a little bit but hopefully they won’t and will be able to expose them.”
