All the odds as Hatters host Stevenage

The men in white coats would have been carrying you away if you had suggested three months ago that Luton would miss out on the League Two play-offs however approaching the last game of the season the Hatters need something of a miracle to achieve the unachievable.

John Still’s side are currently sat three points outside the top-seven and need to beat Stevenage at Kenilworth Road and Shrewsbury to beat Plymouth by a combined eight goals.

The Hatters were as short as 1/50 with BetVictor to seal a play-off spot on Valentine’s Day but are 66/1 to seal an almighty turnaround on the final day of the season.

Whilst 1/50 for a top-seven finish in February, Luton were simultaneously odds-on to be playing League One football next term however are now 500/1 to seal the most unlikely of back-to-back promotions after being 1/2 after February’s 1-0 defeat of Carlisle extended Town’s unbeaten run to 12 league games.

It may be clutching at straws however it’s not inconceivable that Town can comfortably dispatch of Stevenage at the weekend.

Luton won the reverse fixture 2-1 at Broadhall Way in October. BetVictor make the hosts’ 5/6 favourites to win on the final day of the season, the visitors 18/5 having already secured a play-off spot and the draw 14/5.

With Boro already confirmed for a top-seven finish, and unable to better their current position of sixth place, surely they will be tempted to ring the changes ahead of a likely two-legged semi-final with Wycombe?

If they were to rest certain players then it would bring further scrutiny to New Meadow, with Shrewsbury needing to win on the final day of the season and hope Burton don’t in order to be crowned champions.

Micky Mellon’s side have a superior goal-difference so enter their fixture with Plymouth knowing that a Brewers’ draw at Cambridge. combined with a defeat of the Pilgrims. sees them clinch the title; the Shrews 13/20 favourites with BetVictor, Plymouth 5/1 and the draw 3s respectively.

Should the Hatters prevail, they will need to rely on their own fire-power in the final third and will surely need to fly out of the traps at Kenilworth Road and appeal at 2/1 to be leading at both half/time and full/time and similarly 2/1 with BetVictor to win the game to nil.
