Title rivals Cambridge United relinquishing their 100 per cent record at the Abbey Stadium with a 2-1 defeat to Grimsby on Tuesday.

The Hatters are now three points clear at the top of the table as we hit the tail end of the season with Luton and Cambridge both now having played 28 games but the momentum clearly in the Hatters’ favour.

Both promotion rivals Cambridge and Grimsby are fancied for the FA Trophy and will have their priorities split between cup glory and promotion to the Football League.

BetVictor have Luton as the 1/3 favourites to win the title, Cambridge 11/4 and Grimsby the 14/1 third favourites, however as the betting suggests it does appear something of a two horse race.

If the 1/3 for Luton to win the title looks skinny then promotion backers turn away now as they are 2/9 ON to go up; Cambridge even money and 11/4 the field.

Andre Gray netted a second half hat-trick in the 3-0 defeat of Nuneaton at the weekend to move on to 17 goals for the season and level with Halifax’s Lee Gregory.

Providing Gray stays fit he looks a certainty to be the league’s top goalscorer – the 6/4 favourite with BetVictor, Gregory 5/2 and 6/1 bar.

Luton travel to Dartford on Saturday with Tony Burman’s side saved the embarrassment of being bottom thanks to Hyde who continue to be rooted to the foot of the table.

It should be plain sailing for John Still’s side that are no unbeaten in 20 in the Conference Premier and BetVictor make the Hatters 2/5 favourites, Dartford 15/2 and the draw 17/5.

This would undoubtedly be one of the upsets of the season should Luton slip-up at Princes Park and with the men from Kenilworth Road looking a side with an added air of professionalism about them it is hard to see past yet another Luton win.

The Hatters are 11/10 to win the game half time/full time in the double result market and 11/8 to win the game to nil, both with BetVictor and both appeal as the value.

As well as travelling to Eastleigh in the FA Trophy on Saturday, Cambridge also have a trip to Kidderminster in league action Thursday night, can we envisage something of a wobble?

Kiddy are no mugs and are a solitary point of a top five berth, here’s hoping they do the Hatters a favour, Kiddy 6/4 favourites, Cambridge 13/8 and the draw 9/4.
