Young striker Josh Allen came off the bench to score a hat-trick as Luton’s Development squad produced another ruthless performance to beat Farnborough U23s 8-0 at Top Field, home of Hitchin Town, this afternoon.

The hosts started strongly, taking the lead after just five minutes when Millar Matthews-Lewis drove into the area and was brought down for a penalty that Republic of Ireland U19 international Ed McJannet fired into the bottom corner.

Matthews-Lewis went close himself, seeing his attempt cleared off the line, as Oli Lynch was also denied by some desperate defending, while Josh Williams unable to test the visiting stopper after combining well with McJannet.

Tyrelle Newton and Matthews-Lewis and Tyrelle Newton both forced decent saves, but Luton did have their second just before the half-hour mark, captain Conor Lawless crossing for Lynch to head into the top corner.

Adrian Forbes’ side kept the pressure up, Jayden Luker almost on target only for an impressive stop by the keeper, while Josh Odell-Bature’s header struck the post.

After the break, Jake Burger and Daniel Idiakhoa replaced McJannet and Luker as Town turned their ascendancy into goals.

With five minutes gone, a short corner was played to Burger, who found Idiakhoa and he picked out the bottom corner with his first touch.

Burger then went for goal himself moments later, his low attempt handled for a second penalty, as although Lawless saw his spot-kick saved, he hammered home the rebound.

Lynch then showed his aerial prowess with the fifth, replaced by Tobias Braney on the hour mark, who was swiftly joined by Allen.

It was the latter who got off the mark when he tucked home after being picked out by Braney on 65 minutes, grabbing his second six minutes later after winning the battle with the opposition keeper.
