However, the official waved away the protests and then awarded Hatters a second half penalty when Dan Potts fell in the area under pressure from Russell Penn.

Wilcox said: “I’m totally frustrated and angry. I’ve got to be careful with what I say, but to be annoyed to come away from Luton with a point shows you how well we’ve played.

“It’s a game we should have won, a tale two penalties. A blatant penalty for me on Vadaine Oliver that wasn’t which would have hopefully put us 2-0 in front, and then a soft penalty at the end where, he couldn’t wait to give it for me.

“But we’ll get an email saying that it was wrong and that will be great, a lovely email saying you’ve lost two points, but you were right.

“That’s probably six or seven points, and we’ve dropped down the table,

“Some of the decisions these referees make are putting pressure on people’s jobs, but they’ll be okay, they’ll sleep tonight.

“Again it’s a game we should have won, the table doesn’t lie but there are so many positives to take.

“We dealt with the pressure and Scotty Flinders has not had a great deal to do, a couple of saves to make, but you’re talking about Luton Town who have won four on the spin and have had two clean sheets at home.

“At times we’ve passed them off the park, moved the ball around the pitch and created opportunities.

“I’m so disappointed for the travelling fans again as we should be going home with three points.”

Hatters boss John Still saw the incident surrounding Potts differently though and was bemused that Penn wasn’t shown a card of any colour for his indiscretion.

He said: “I was shocked because he was running through on goal and he gave a penalty for what looked to me like a clumsy challenge, it wasn’t a malicious one.

“If that had happened anywhere else on the pitch I’d have thought a yellow card, but I’m not a referee.”
