Asafu-Adjaye hoping that Hatters’ luck will start to change

HATTERS defender Ed Asafu-Adjaye is hoping that Town can finally come out on top in a two-legged tie, when they face Wrexham in the Blue Square Bet Premier play-offs next Thursday, writes Mike Simmonds.

Town’s last two attempts have ended in defeat as Hatters lost 2-1 to Mansfield in the FA Trophy this year and 2-0 to York City in last season’s play-offs.

Both times Town have failed to score in the away leg and that is something Asafu-Adjaye knows has to change.

He said: “They (Wrexham) are a little bit of a tricky team. But I think on our day as long as we do things right and we work hard as a unit, we’ve got enough in that dressing room to take us through.

“We had the play-offs last year and the Mansfield game this year.

“So we’ve got experience of two-legged games.

“They’ve not gone our way, but we can take that experience and use it to our advantage and hopefully we come out on top.

“We can’t go into a first leg thinking it’s OK, we’ve got a second game to go.

“You have to go into the first leg, get the result and then you know you get another result and you’ve seen it out.”

Meanwhile, Town manager Gary Brabin isn’t paying any attention to the unrest surrounding Wrexham, who visit Kenilworth Rad in the league this Saturday.

The Red Dragons’ participation in the play-offs was only cleared by the Conference on Monday evening due to a winding up order over a £200,000 unpaid tax bill. Brabin said: “We’re just going to concentrate on ourselves.

“You can only control what you’re in control of and we’re glad we’re in the play-offs.

“That’s always been our main aim.”
