Atieno back to his best

Taiwo settling into life in England again

WITH three goals in his last two matches, attacker Taiwo Atieno finally feels like he is getting back to his best, writes Mike Simmonds.

The Luton Town frontman excelled after coming off the bench against Histon at the weekend, clinically finding the net late on for his fourth of the season. The striker has now made 13 appearances for the Hatters since re-signing for the club in September after spells in South Africa and America.

With two close-range efforts to his name in the 4-2 cup victory over Corby Town as well, he said: “I’m enjoying my football a bit more. I feel like I’ve settled back into England and enjoying it.

“I actually enjoyed those ones (the Corby goals) more than any other goals, because I just want to get in the box and score goals.

“At the end of the season, people never remember your goals anyway, so the best thing to do is get as many as possible.

“Getting in the box is one of my strengths and with the service we get here, it’s the best thing to do.”

Although happy with his tap-ins, Atieno has now set his sights on scoring goals with another part of his body.

He said: “I want to score some headers. I get a few in training, but the gaffer said he wants to see them in matches. I’m really focusing to try and score some headers now and want to get on the scoresheet and help the team go somewhere.”

The competition for places is hotting up at Kenilworth Road now as Barrow striker Jason Walker has signed on loan, but the Kenyan international isn’t letting that affect him.

He said: “Jason has done well and got on the scoresheet, but you can’t worry too much about things you don’t have control over.

“I’m just thinking about my football and concentrating and focusing on being effective when I’m needed. I’m enjoying every time I get a chance and want to take my chances when I get them.

“Luton is a good club to be at. The competition keeps you on your toes and makes you want to work harder. I think as a player and a professional you want those challenges and it’s nice to be part of.”
