Benson scored in all four of Luton’s league wins in December as the Hatters picked up maximum points, which also saw boss John Still named manager of the month.

The 34-year-old on-loan Swindon Town striker also scored again in the 2-1 New Year’s Day win over Barnet at Kenilworth Road and, although happy with his goals and his form, he felt some of his team-mates would be more deserving of the prize.

Benson, who now has 11 goals in 22 Luton appearances, said: “It’s really good. I’m happy about the goals I’m scoring, I’m on a decent little run at the moment and, as far as the award goes it honestly could have gone to 11 or 12 other players in the team.”
