Striker Paul Benson believes that Tuesday night’s Capital One Cup tie against his former side Swindon Town will be a good gauge for the Hatters.

Town entertain the League One outfit in the first round, as Benson said: “Swindon are a good solid League One side, they did well last year, so it will be a good chance to test the water and see where we are.

“It’s a nice draw, a home draw against a team who are the league above you.

“It’s a chance to really test yourself going into the new season.

“We can go into it and really look forward to it as there won’t be so much pressure and we’ll be the underdogs.

“Last season, every game we went into we were firm favourites, so it’ll be a chance to see where we’re at.”

Benson himself is hoping to get one over the Robins, who released him from the County Ground in the summer.

He notched 15 goals in 39 games for the club, but was allowed to join Luton on a season-long loan before moving permanently in the summer.

Benson added: “You always look forward to these games and there’s a bit of an added incentive to play and score against your old teams.

“So hopefully I’ll be able to show them what they missed.”
