Brabin may stick with 4-4-2 formation

HATTERS boss Gary Brabin has hinted he may well revert to a 4-4-2 formation for the Blue Square Bet Premier run-in, writes Mike Simmonds.

Town switched back to the more traditional set-up for Tuesday night’s trip to Darlington, with Craig McAllister and Danny Crow starting up front.

Stuart Fleetwood took over from Crow at the interval, and netted his 11th goal of the season late on to become Town’s leading scorer.

Brabin said: “We wanted to go back to 4-4-2, but with certain injuries we’ve been a little dictated.

“Stuart Fleetwood is a player that we certainly want to get the best out of.

“He got another goal, we need to be getting the best out of him and I think he is better in a 4-4-2.

“One of the reasons we wanted to go back to 4-4-2 is when we get Craig McAllister a lot fitter I think they will be a good pairing as well as Danny Crow. With the three of them we’ve got enough to play that formation.

“We need to get Craig up to speed, it’s been difficult with the stop-start games.”

One thing that did disappoint Brabin though was the lack of quality Town showcased with their final ball throughout the evening.

Luton forced 12 corners and got into a host of decent crossing positions, but couldn’t find the killer pass as the boss added: “One thing we’ve been quite consistent on is our set plays.

“Five out of the first eight corners we’ve hit the first man and that’s disappointing.

“The one’s we have got in the box, we’ve got to head on target. The second half we looked a little bit brighter and apart from some heroic saves from their keeper it could have been a bit better.”
