Former Luton Town boss Gary Brabin has been appointed as Southport manager after Martin Foyle was relieved of his duties.

The 43-year-old, who was in charge at Kenilworth Road for a year, led Town to a play-off final defeat on penalties to AFC Wimbledon, before losing his job after a 2-1 loss against York City.

Brabin’s assistant at Haig Avenue will be another ex-Hatters player in Paul Carden and on taking over, he told the club’s official website: “I’m delighted to be back here at Southport FC and am very impressed with the fantastic training facilities on offer at Edge Hill.

“I know all the people here at the club, especially Chairman Charlie Clapham and am looking forward to meeting the supporters again.”
