Brabin wants to seal Kovacs signing

HATTERS boss Gary Brabin is hopeful of turning Hungarian defender Janos Kovac’s loan move to Luton Town into a permanent deal, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 26-year-old has played all eight games since joining Town for his second spell from Hereford United last month, but Friday night’s trip to Grimsby Town is the last of his temporary switch.

Brabin said: “We’ve spoken to Janos about where he wants to go and we want to keep Janos longer, but it’s a little bit more complicated than that.

“He’s still contracted to Hereford at the moment and I don’t want to go too much in depth, but Janos is a player we would certainly be interested in keeping.

“I think Janos has enjoyed his time here and we’ll see how it goes after Friday, but he has come in and I think he would be a good acquisition.”

If the deal with Kovacs can’t be concluded, Brabin admitted it was unlikely he would look elsewhere with the likes of Dean Beckwith and Will Antwi both available.

He continued: “One position we have depth is centre half. It was a problem at the start of the season as we didn’t have Pilks (George Pilkington) and then the suspension to Dean Beckwith,

“But we’re now in a healthy situation and Shane (Blackett) has played left back, but he also gives us an option at centre half.”
