Brabin’s pride at late point

LUTON Town manager Gary Brabin was bursting with pride after his side’s 1-1 draw with Wrexham on Saturday, writes Mike Simmonds.

Jason Walker’s last minute penalty saw Hatters salvage a point after Louis Moss’ early opener had looked like it would have been enough for Wrexham.

Brabin said: “I’m absolutely delighted with the performance. I thought it took us 10 minutes to get to grips with it, they changed the formation and caused us a few problems.

“We showed a little bit of naivety and they went 1-0 ahead. But then we controlled the game, and I was really proud of the lads, especially second half, I thought they were outstanding.”

The visitors made 11 changes to their side, while Hatters made five to the team that beat Histon 4-0, including youngsters Dan Walker and Godfrey Poku in for rare starts.

Brabin admitted he wasn’t surprised by the Red Dragons tactics and felt they possessed a squad strong enough to cause his side problems.

He continued: “I think they came here to see out the last game, fair play to them, they gave us some problems first 10 minutes.

“I know they’ve got a strong squad. They’ve got two teams and this team beat Blackburn’s first team 3-1 in midweek.

“They’re no pushover, I know most of their players, (Marvin) Andrews has played in the Champion’s League for Rangers and (they’ve got) ex-Man United midfielder David Brown.

“They’ve got an abundance of talent in their second string and are playing good, competitive games. It was a tough game and I wasn’t too bothered with that they do. It was important that we never took our foot off the gas and keep doing the things we have been doing in recent games and I thought we did that quite well.”

Regarding the penalty awarded after Dan Walker was fouled late on, Brabin added: “From where we were, it was diffciult to see the decision.

“The referee was brave enough to make that decision and in the end I think we at least deserved a draw.

“Their goalkeeper has come here and been outstanding. I think that’sa complement to us. We’re creating chances and I thought we’ve peppered their goal and their goalie’s had a great game. He looked like he enjoyed himself and made some great saves.“
