Buckle satisfied with a point against Luton

Former Town boss Paul Buckle was pleased with a point as his Cheltenham side drew 1-1 against Luton Town on Saturday.

The Robins had taken a 20 minute lead through Zack Kotwica, only for Hatters to hit back immediately thanks to Shaun Whalley’s leveller.

Not holding on to their advantage for longer was the one frustration for Buckle though as he said: “I am happy with a point, we would have most probably taken a point before the game.

“I thought it was a frantic start to the game, but the first 20 minutes was important and we managed to go in to the lead with a very good goal.

“It’s just disappointing that we couldn’t hold on to that for five or 10 minutes and build on it.

“When we conceded there was a worry that Luton would come at us with their tails up, but we stood strong.

“That was the theme of the day, John Still’s teams and certainly this Luton team are always going to be competitive, but we stood up to it.

“If we had showed any weakness against Luton, they would have rolled us over. But we stood up and were strong and the boys took on board the instructions we gave them.

“It was a very open game and tactically we got it spot on. They were always going to ask a lot of questions of us.

“Luton would have been thinking that it was three points for them. They have every right to think that coming into the game.

“But it was tough for them and we created a number of chances to worry them. They have some really experienced players in their team and we have only one or two.

“We stood up all over the pitch. We looked strong and always looked as though we were capable of scoring another goal. I am proud of that performance.”
