City had more than matched their opponents during the first half and looked to be on their way to a welcome point until Robinson’s attempted cross flew over keeper Aaron Chapman and into the net.

Hatters then scored twice more through Andre Gray and Paul Benson as Burr said: “The first goal was a fluke which rocked us a little bit, and then the two goals we’ve conceded after that are poor goals from our point of view.

“When you’re at the top you get little things going for you as it was very fortuitous and that’s the way it’s been going for us, but we’re disappointed with the two other other goals.”

The visitors had managed to frustrate Luton for large parts of the game and also carry an attacking threat themselves as Burr added: “We came with a gameplan and it was working very well.

“When you think we’ve got half a team missing as well, I was really pleased with how we went about the game.

“It’s a good sign we’ve come to a place like Luton and we’ve created a few chances, that was pleasing.
“We just lacked that bit of strength when you need it most and the first goal just about sums up what’s been happening to us.”
