Town midfielder Jordan Clark has urged his side to go and put on a performance against their fierce rivals Watford this afternoon.

The Hatters head to Vicarage Road for the first time since April 2006, when Ahmet Brkovic’s close range volley earned Luton a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw.

Although Clark has only been at Kenilworth Road for a matter of months, he has been doing his homework on the importance of the game, saying: “A lot of people have spoken about it behind the scenes and they’ve said they can’t believe there’s going to be no fans for the game.

“We’ve just go to go there and try and put a performance in as they’ve got a lot of Premier League players, but we’re flying high at the minute.

“Confidence is sky high and we’ve just got to keep going, keep testing ourselves as much as we can and confidence is a scary thing.

“When you come in and you’ve got that feelgood factor around the place, you go out on the pitch with no fear and confidence takes you anywhere you want to go as a player.

“We were on about that the other day in the meeting, we’ve gone from playing at lower league grounds to playing Derby, Man United and Watford in one week.

“It’s scary, but this is what we’ve all worked so hard for.

"I've worked so hard for myself, so I’m relishing it really, I just can’t wait to play.”

Clark himself is yet to start to start in the Championship for the Hatters, but after becoming second top scorer this term with the winner at Derby last weekend, his second of the season, hopes to be pushing for inclusion this afternoon.

He continued: “That’s all I can do, try and perform well and score goals and then it obviously gives him (Nathan Jones) a bit of a problem.

"The lads have been playing really well anyway, so when the team’s winning, you can’t say anything to him, you can't pull him and say 'why am I not playing?'

"But that’s not what we want, we want a squad where everyone’s hungry.

"We’ve got two players for every position, which is massive as it’s a long old season, so competition for places makes people perform better.

"I think that’s why we’re getting the good results as we’ve got a really top quality squad.

"We’ve got players who are pushing the starters every day in training, wanting to get into the team, that creates good competition which creates confidence and it’s like a snowball effect.

"We all want to work hard for each other in there, give 100 per cent every week and along with that and the quality, who knows where we can go this season?

"We’ve just got to take each game as it comes and you never know, stranger things have happened."

Town can go into the game at Watford after a fine last display in the league which saw them defeat a Rams side containing Wayne Rooney, 2-1 at Kenilworth Road.

Clark felt his side were at their optimum at times on the day, saying: "Some of the football we played first half was brilliant.

"We were saying on the bench, that’s the best we’ve played all pre-season, it was great to watch.

"It was disappointing we didn’t get one or two more goals, but Bez (Luke Berry) took his goal really well, I don’t know how he got his foot up that high, but it was a great ball in from Elliot (Lee) too.

“It was a game of two halves, we bossed the game first half and then they took control second half, penned us in quite deep, but they’ve got good players, a lot of young players and the more experienced players.

"They’ve all got good quality and have played at this level for a long time, so it was tough.

"We stuck at it, we defended well and nicked a goal right at the end, but it was a good game and coming on to make an impact, that’s what I’m all about."

The one thing missing from the game at Watford this afternoon will be supporters, the match behind closed doors due to the social distancing measures in place.

Clark added: "It’s disappointing, it’s not the same, I bet some players can struggle to get up to games, but you’ve just got to be professional.

"Hopefully soon enough they will be back in the stadium as scoring, it would have been nice to have the stand behind the goal full, but it is what it is and we’ve just got to keep on going and doing what we’re doing.

"Three points is three points and I’m sure the fans are buzzing at home."
