Connolly: Easy life was never an option

Settling for an easy life was not an option for new Town defender Paul Connolly, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 30-year-old right-back was released by League One Crawley Town in the summer and despite a number of clubs closer to home interested in acquiring his services, he chose Luton.

On just why he made that decision, the former Leeds, Derby and Sheffield United full-back said: “There were teams from this league and League One, but I turned them down.

“Then a couple of weeks ago, a couple of teams up by Liverpool in League Two were interested.

“But I was always going to come here as I’ve been at big clubs and I enjoy playing for big clubs.

“It could have been so easy for me just to stay at home and sign there, but I want to push myself and did that at Luton.

“I know how big the club is as I played against them when they were a Championship club, so it was a no brainer, it really was.”

Although Still’s usual remit for players is ‘young and hungry’, he also knows the value of experience too, signing Connolly and Andy Drury.

The defender is hoping to pass on some of his knowledge from gaining more than 300 appearances, but knows he has to win his place first.
