Town attacker Harry Cornick is hoping both he and the team continue to thrive under returning boss Nathan Jones.

The manager has had quite an impact already since taking the reins once more at Kenilworth Road, appointed in late May after Graeme Jones had his contract terminated by mutual consent during the coronavirus pandemic.

He has overseen five points from his first three games, including a superb 1-0 win at Swansea and hugely impressive 1-1 draw at leaders Leeds United on Tuesday night, giving the Hatters a real chance of staying up this term.

On how things have been under Jones, Cornick said: “It’s great for the team, he’s been here before, we know what he’s like, he’s a good manager.

“It’s not who do you prefer, or it’s not this or that, he’s come in, we've had some good results since he’s been here.

"I like working under him, I liked working under Graeme Jones, it’s not like that at all.

"I’m happy he's back as he likes me as a player, so hopefully I can thrive under him and hopefully he can help the team gets the results they need to stay in the league.”

Cornick had been originally signed by Jones during his first spell back in August 2017, agreeing to move from Premier League Bournemouth when Town were still in League Two.

He has gone on to become a major player for the club in that time, particularly this year though, his stunning strike at Elland Road in midweek making it a career best nine for the season.

The fact that it was Jones who brought him to the club was a good thing for the attacker, as he said: “Hopefully so, you’ll have to ask him that.

"He’s a good manager, he gets the best out of me and I feel like I work well under him.

"I understand what he wants, he knows what he's going to get from me, so for me personally it’s good and for the team it’s good as he’s done Luton so well in the past.

"Getting promoted from League Two and then his philosophy we stayed with in League One, got promoted, so it’s great that he's back and hopefully he can help us get the points.”

After looking certainties to be back in the third tier again before the season was postponed due to the coronavirus, Luton did finally start ti his some form under Graeme Jones, going three games without defeat and only losing one in six.

They have carried that on under Jones, making it six unbeaten in total and Cornick believes the battling spirit they demonstrated to battle for a point at Leeds on Tuesday showcased the spirit among the players.

He added: "We’ve always had this togetherness in the squad.

"In the past we’ve conceded some late goals and we've tried to dig in deep this time, but the back six were unbelievable.

"In the last five minutes they've won five or six headers in the box, they've cleared their lines well.

"It's crunch time now, maybe at the start of the season we didn't realise how important it was, I don't know, but these last six games, we know how important it is.

"We need points to stay in this league otherwise we’re going to get relegated which is the last thing we need.

"So everyone's digging in deep, everyone's putting their all in which we've done all season, it maybe just shows a bit more."
