Harry Cornick was on the scoresheet as Luton continued their build-up to the 2020-21 Sky Bet Championship campaign with a 1-0 win over League Two neighbours Stevenage on Saturday afternoon.

Manager Nathan Jones gave 23 players a run-out in the match, as the first half saw recent addition Jordan Clark make his first outing since arriving from Accrington.

James Collins and Luke Berry went closest early on, with the home defence led by former Town skipper Scott Cuthbert.

Collins tried his luck from outside the box, while Berry headed Kazenga LuaLua’s cross straight at goalkeeper Jamie Cumming.

With the whole line-up changed, the second half started with the Hatters in the ascendancy.

Sam Beckwith whipped in a dangerous cross that Danny Hylton couldn't quite reach, before Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu's delivery wasn't converted by Cornick.

Cornick dinked a cross to the far post for George Moncur, whose volley was saved by Cumming before Elliot Lee had two efforts blocked and Moncur fired the follow-up straight at the keeper.

James Shea was called into action for the first time just after the hour to beat away a shot from Tyrone Marsh, and with quarter of an hour to go, tipped over a Ben Coker effort.

Lee's 25-yarder was just wide, while the breakthrough came with 11 minutes to go, Cornick holding off his man to fire low past sub stopper Billy Johnson.

Johnson’s palms were stung by Lee, trying his luck from distance again two minutes later, but Town couldn't add to their scoreline.
