Cornick would be 'gobsmacked' if Leicester midfielder Dewsbury-Hall returns to Luton

Town attacker Harry Cornick would be ‘gobsmacked’ if the Hatters could tempt midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall back to Kenilworth Road next term.

The 22-year-old on-loan Leicester City youngster has been in superb form for Luton this season, scoring twice and racking up seven assists in his 36 league appearances.

He managed another two during Sunday’s 3-2 win at Bristol City, with a tweet from Five Yards this week stating that at 65 chances created, Dewsbury-Hall has more than the combined tally of Portuguese and Juventus star Ronaldo, plus Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappé this season, who have 64 between them.

Speaking about the Town loanee, Cornick went as far to claim he is one of the best players he has ever stepped foot on to a field with, saying: “He’s been brilliant, he’s a talented player.

"Before every game I say to him, ‘go out there and be the best on the pitch’, as he has the ability to be the best player on any pitch.

“In every Championship game I’ve seen this year, he’s been the most talented player on the pitch.

“I always tell it to him and as long as his attitude is right, there’s no stopping him.

“I can’t see him not playing all the way to the very top, challenging at Leicester next year and who knows what he can go on to do, as I think he’s probably one of the best players I’ve played with.

“In terms of raw talent and raw ability, he’s second to none in the Championship.

“If he came back next year I’d be gobsmacked, I really would.

“As much as I’d love it and the team would love it and the Luton fans would love it, and he’d be so good for us, it would be tough to bring him back here, just because we all know how good he really is.

“I think we’re lucky to have him this year, I think we were lucky to keep him in January.

“There were clubs sniffing around for him, it’s testament to him as a person to stay here and stay with the lads for the whole season and give his all.”

The manner in which Dewsbury-Hall has integrated with the squad has been a massive part of his success as well according to Cornick, who added: “Sometimes it’s tough going on loan, as when you’re not one of the squad sometimes, you don’t care as much.

“But it means so much to him to win every game as he wants to win it for himself, wants to win it for us, for Luton Town.

“He’s bought into the club’s philosophy, even though he’s not an actual Luton player per se.

“He cares as much about football and doing well that it’s brilliant to see.

"I hope he goes all the way to the very top, I sort of don’t want to see him here next year, I want to see him playing at Leicester in the Premier League.

"I'd love to have him back, but I would rather see him doing well at Leicester, so who knows what the future holds for him?

"But I can see really good things happening for him."

Dewsbury-Hall set up both James Collins and Elijah Adebayo for their goals at Ashton Gate, while he had a hand in Cornick's first goal of the season too, his long range strike touched by Collins into the forward to beat Robins keeper Dan Bentley.

Cornick, who has also set up seven goals this term, said: "We’ll knock that assist off him as I need to come top of the assists!"

Meanwhile, boss Nathan Jones also commented on the mdifielder's fine display, adding: "He’s done one real good thing first half where he’s put the ball in the right area and we’ve scored (a disallowed goal), but he was off it first half and then he steps on it second half."
