Huddersfield Town manager Danny Cowley didn't think he side's 2-0 defeat at home to relegation rivals Luton Town was a 'fatal' blow to their hopes of staying in the Championship this term.

The Terriers were undone by two second half goals from Sonny Bradley and Elliot Lee at the John Smith's Stadium to sit just two points above the drop zone, with Luton now within three of their opponents.

However, Cowley wasn't overly concerned about the threat of dropping into League One with time still on their hands, saying: "It was a bitterly disappointing evening; it was a really big game, but we were nowhere near our levels.

"We were far too slow in possession and the first goal we conceded is so soft.

"We’re not looking for any excuses; we have to stand up and take responsibility.

"The first goal was always going to be important and the nature of it was poor.

“We conceded an awful goal from a set piece.

"It was a ball that was tossed into our box and their centre-half had a free header from about four yards out, which is unacceptable; it’s been our Achilles heel.

"We’ve conceded too many goals. In these games the first goal is so important.

“We didn’t carry the attacking threat we should have given the possession we had.

"There wasn’t a sharpness in our play, we didn’t move the ball quick enough.

"We didn’t make enough hard runs beyond the defence and consequently didn’t carry the threat we’d have liked.

"I have to take responsibility and we have to accept the criticism that will come our way.

"We’ve had disappointments before this season and we’ve always reacted well.

"We did well in the last three games to put ourselves in a good position and we were hoping to find our best levels in an important game, and we didn’t do that.

Now we have to go to Sheffield Wednesday and perform. We have faith in this group.

"It's not fatal. There are three games to go and we need to respond."
