Cullen felt it was two points dropped against York

Hatters striker Mark Cullen felt Tuesday night’s crazy 2-2 draw against struggling York City was definitely a case of two points dropped.

The hosts found themselves trailing 2-0 after an hour, before the Minstermen were reduced to 10 men when Jake Hyde was sent off for a challenge on Nathan Doyle.

Town came roaring back, with Cullen scoring twice to ensure his side, who had Steve McNulty dismissed, remained unbeaten at home in the league since Septemer 6 as Hatters’ leading scorer said: “I’d definitely say it was two points dropped, we should be winning all our home games.

“The fact we’ve drawn from being two behind is a good result, but we shouldn’t really be getting in that position in the first place in my opinion.

“We had a few chances in the first half, although I think it was a tight game as we weren’t carving them open.

“At the start of the second half, we did come out on top, but they’ve nicked two goals from sloppy play by us and punished us.

“It was carnage really, we were down to 10 men and then nine men, I didn’t know what was happening really. It was just end to end carnage and we managed to nick a point.”

However, Cullen then came on to save the day with two predatory finishes, as he and fellow sub Shaun Whalley combined to devastating effect.

The 22-year-old said: “Shaun put in a couple of decent balls and I managed to get on the end of it, so I can’t ask for much more.

“That’s what I base my game on, in and around the box, when people get balls in, I fancy myself to finish them.

“The first one, we had a corner and we always work on covering areas of the goal. I got myself across the front, its come to me and I’ve managed to turn it in.

“The second one, Shaun got at his man like he usually does and put a great cross in. It was more of a shoulder from me, but it still went in the back of the net, so two good goals.”

Hatters almost nicked when Whalley burst clear, but his lob couldn’t beat keeper Bobby Olejnik, who also produced a fine last-gasp save from on-loan Spurs striker Nathan Oduwa.

Cullen added: “Shaun said he didn’t realise I was in there, but it was just unfortunate he didn’t get enough on the lob.

“We had some good opportunities, so it was shame we just couldn’t get the last goal.

“It was a decent strike from Nathan too. I thought it might have caught the goalie out at the near post, but he’s got down quite well.”
