Cullen hoping to force his way back in after double strike

Town’s leading scorer came off the bench to rescue a point for the hosts with his first league goals for over three months, since a hat-trick against Dagenham on October 21.

Cullen, who hasn’t started a league game since before the turn of the year either, said: “I want to start every game I can, but it’s up to the gaffer who he picks.

“All I can do is keep working and there’s not much more I could have done, maybe score three, but I’ve not done myself any harm.

“I try and score every game and its not as if I’ve been missing chances from what I remember.

“We haven’t been creating any chances for me.

“If we can’t create chances, I can’t score, so it’s obviously frustrating as it’s been a good few months since I got a goal.

“Weve got some creative lads in the squad, Andy Drury’s set up a fair few goals, and Smudger (Jonathan Smith) as well.

“It’s just whether they fall to you. We were winning games, but they weren’t dropping for me, so hopefully I’ve got that off my back, I can go and get a few more.”

On whether the forward did have a point to prove, Town chief Still said: “I hope so. I’ll be honest, I think Cully needed a rest and he’ll be the first to say that.

“We know he’s a good player, but he has needed a rest.”

Hatters have come in for some criticism recently by playing just one recognised striker, particularly at home.

Their comeback came when they switched formations, and threw Cullen upfront alongside on-loan forward Jayden Stockley.

On whether the boss might be tempted to change tactics going forward, Cullen continued: “I have no idea, that’s down to the gaffer.

“We’ve played one up front, or three upfront, however you want to look at it since I’ve been here the last 18 months and its been successful.

“It’s a good option to have to change during the game, but that’s a question for the gaffer.

“That’s the shape the gaffer’s playing and it’s the shape we’ve done really well with.

“At the start of the season I was scoring goals playing in that shape, so it wasn’t really an issue.

“In a 4-4-2, you’re sharing the load up there, not running channels or having to just flick it on, you get to work on partnerships and it has seemed to work the last couple of games.”
