Hatters striker Mark Cullen is hoping to finally create some enjoyable FA Cup memories when he takes to the field against Newport County this weekend.

The 22-year-old made his professional debut in the competition while at Hull City as a 67th minute sub for Kamel Ghilas during a 4-1 defeat at Wigan in 2010, where he was also booked.

He then played for the Tigers in a 1-0 home defeat by Crawley, plus a 1-1 draw with Leyton Orient and then for Luton in the 2-1 defeat to Welling last year.

On his FA Cup exploits, Cullen said: “I remember my professional debut in the FA Cup against Wigan, that wasn’t a good day and is a lasting memory in my mind.

“Apart from that, nothing really, so hopefully we can make a few this year.”

As a fan, Cullen has nothing but bad memories too as Newcastle United reached the final twice in successive years only to be defeated by Arsenal and Manchester United.

He continued: “I remember the late 90s, Newcastle got into a couple of finals and didn’t win, no surprise there, so I’ve got bad memories really of the FA Cup!

“We’ll go and try and make our own memories Saturday though and get a good result.”

Apart from last season, Hatters have had a decent record of late, famously beating Norwich City on their way to the fifth round two years ago.

Cullen, who was named the Sky Bet League Two Player of the Month today, said: “They had a good run a couple of years ago, so hopefully we can have another good one this year and draw against some big teams further down the line.

“But we have to concentrate on this Saturday and try and get the win.”

The striker is hoping to to be on target again and continue a quite amazing run that has seen Luton never beaten when he has scored.

Cullen added: “Someone tweeted me that, it’s a good stat isn’t it, hopefully I score every game!

“I didn’t even realise that was a stat until then, but it’s always pleasing to see we don’t lose when I score. If that’s the case, I need to score more often.”
