Cullen opens up about Luton exit

The 23-year-old was snapped by Blackpool for a fee of £180,000 in a deal that saw Luton retain a sell-on clause should he be sold in the 
future.

Speaking exclusively to the News/Gazette, Cullen said: “I spoke to the gaffer (John Still) and he understood my situation where I wanted to get a little bit further north really for my family.

“To be fair to him, he said if something came up that was suitable for the club and for yourself, then we’ll look to do it.

“He stuck by his words and I’m really pleased with that, I’ve thanked John for that too.

“Every footballer wants to play at the highest possible level too, so when the opportunity came to move to up to League One, I’d be foolish to turn that sort of thing down.”

Cullen’s move away from Luton had been hinted at since the January transfer window, when Still dropped him for the match at AFC Wimbledon after the striker had apparently asked to leave.

On whether he was disappointed how the speculation was handled, Cullen said: “Maybe, but it’s all been and gone now, for me it was water off a ducks back.

“I ended up not leaving, and I thought I put the effort in until the end of the season.”
