Cullen ready to fight for his Hatters place

The forward was linked with a move away from the club in the week after boss John Still revealed there had been concrete interest his Luton’s leading scorer.

But it now appears Cullen will remain with Town as he was selected on the bench for this afternoon’s clash with Accrington and in an interview with the club’s official website, he said: “I heard there was a bit of speculation and interest from higher up the divisions from different teams.

“That would tempt any player, they want to challenge themselves at the highest level possible, so I spoke to the gaffer and Gary Sweet to find out what the situation was really.

“If I unsettled anyone, I didn’t mean for that to happen. I’m still a Luton Town player and for me, I want to get back into the team, score goals and help the lads push on.”

The striker admitted he had taken some criticism from Town supporters since the news was made public, but hopes to repair those relationships.

He continued: “I took a bit of stick last weekend when the speculation was kicking around and they can say what they want.

“I get on quite well with the fans and would like that to continue as long as possible.

“If I can get a few goals and help the team push on, I don’t see that being an issue.”

Cullen is now hoping to concentrate on a second successive promotion, as he added: “We had a successful year last year and the gaffer showed a lot of faith in me and seems to value my part in the team which is really good.

“I’d like to just get back on the pitch and try to help the team out. Get some minutes and some goals and help the team get promotion.”
