Cuthbert admits time was right to leave Orient

Defender Scott Cuthbert admitted it had been a real wrench to leave Leyton Orient this summer, but felt it the best thing for his career.

The 27-year-old ended his four year association with the Brisbane Road club on Tuesday, as he penned a deal at Kenilworth Road.

Speaking about his decision to leave the O’s, who will be one of Town’s rivals in League Two this season after their relegation, he said: “I’ve absolutely loved my time at Orient and am really grateful to the club as they took a chance on me after a really bad season with Swindon.

“They gave me another opportunity in League One and really brought the best out of me.

“It was a bit of a gut-wrench to be leaving Orient, but at the same time, it was the right time to go.

“I needed a new challenge, to move to another club, and think it was needed at this stage of my career.”

With Hatters boss John Still confirming he had been looking to bring in a more experienced element to his squad during the summer, Cuthbert fits the bill perfectly.

His arrival will no doubt increase the pressure on centre halves Steve McNulty and Luke Wilkinson who were Town’s preferred pairing last term and it’s exactly what the defender thinks Hatters require too.
