Cuthbert confident of Cumbrians victory

Hatters defender Scott Cuthbert insists his side are confident they can stretch their unbeaten run when Carlisle United head to Kenilworth Road this evening.

The visitors have made an impressive start to League Two this year, sitting one place above the Hatters and drew with Portsmouth on Saturday, courtesy of a last-minute leveller.

But Cuthbert, who has seen Luton go four unbeaten in all competitions recently, said: “We’ve seen clips on Carlisle and they play some real good football, they take a chance at the back and really try and play from there.

“It will be a completely different game from against Stevenage, but one that when you play at Kenilworth Road, the support we’ve got and the noise they make, you’re more than confident we can get a result.”

Cuthbert had been impressed with his side’s resilience at the weekend as they were held to a 0-0 draw at Stevenage as he continued: “It was local derby and we knew the game would be quite fast and frantic.

“We always know that if we defend right and stay solid, our quality will show through and I think it did for spells.

“We’re obviously frustrated that we couldn’t get a goal, as we’ve been scoring quite a lot of goals recently. On another day Green’s (Danny Green) effort goes in off the bar, but wasn’t to be.

“We’ve kept a clean sheet and got a point away from home, so we’ll take positives from that.”

Cuthbert is also confident that despite being eight points away from the top three, automatic promotion remains a definite possibility if they can keep their run of form going.

He added: “We’re heading in the right direction now. We had a good run of games where it was four or five wins we got, then had a little blip and we’ve got over that.

“We’re a strong team, everyone knows we are and when we get going we’re hard to stop. We’re looking upwards now and we’re aiming to finish as high as we can.”
