Cuthbert hopes he can return to his best for Luton

Hatters centre half Scott Cuthbert is determined to keep the standard he has now set during a starring role at Exeter on Saturday.

The summer signing from Leyton Orient missed the recent defeats to Peterborough and Northampton after picking up a hamstring injury.

However, he was back to something like his best in the 3-2 win at the weekend, after openly admitted his displays prior hadn’t been up to scratch.

Cuthbert said: “That’s the way I want to play every week.

“I think at the start of the season I was showing my qualities and I’ve had a bit of a dip personally.

“I want to be playing every week, I didn’t like sitting in the stands and watching the Peterborough and Northampton games, I want to be out there playing.

“I feel like my performances of late haven’t been good enough, but certainly that was a big improvement and I want to keep on putting those kind of performances in week in week out, as I know I can.”

Caretaker boss Andy Awford was full of praise for Cuthbert too, admitting he was always well aware just what the defender can bring to the side.

He added: “I think Scott’s a good player. If I’m being perfectly honest with you he’s a player that when I was manager of Portsmouth I looked at and was interested in signing him, whilst he was at Leyton Orient.

“He was one I knew about lots anyway, I watched him lots of times myself, so I thought he was magnificent.”
