Defender will remain firmly in the background as Hatters bid for play-off glory

PHILOSOPHICAL full-back Freddie Murray may miss the play-off run-in through injury but he will be in the stands to cheer the Hatters on in their quest for a return to the Football League.

He admitted that it was ‘sod’s law’ that his knee ligament injury suffered at York would rule him out of the most important part of the season, so instead he will get behind his team-mates as best he can.

The 28-year-old admitted he was gutted at first, but quickly moved on.

He said: “You are (disappointed) initially. I’ve been injured in the past.

“I quickly look at things in perspective and it’s football at the end of the day.

“My perspective is it could always be worse.

“I will be back in six weeks but the timing is awful.

“All I can do is get behind the lads that are going to play.

“I will be there cheering them on and believe in what they can do and cheering them on as a fan.”

On the injury itself, which will see him miss both games against Wrexham and any potential final, Murray continued: “Basically it’s a knee ligament injury that will keep me out for the rest of the season.

“It’s frustrating – bad timing.

“It’s sod’s law and it’s coming into the important part of the season.

“I’ve played 35 games but I’m missing the most important part. That makes it doubly disappointing.”

And he believes the best way to help is to stay in the background, adding: “I will stay out of the way.

“If I was a manager I wouldn’t want injured players sitting around and getting in the way.

“I have a very good relationship with the manager and medical staff, but I can’t do anything on the pitch, so from that point of view, I’m useless at the moment.”
