Doyle and Smith the big winners at awards night

Luton Town midfielder Nathan Doyle was named Hatters player of the season as voted for by members of Luton Town Supporters’ Club and Trust in Luton on Sunday.

The midfielder, who joined the club on a free transfer in September and recently penned a new one-year deal, was presented his award at the annual awards night at Luton Rugby Club on Sunday.

However, it was Jonathan Smith who was the big winner on the night as he walked away with three awards.

The 28-year-old was named as players’ player of the year by his fellow team-mates and was the pick of young members of the supporters’ club, while also winning the website player of the year award.

On picking up his trio of prizes, Smith tweeted: “Overwhelmed by the awards I won tonight I’m heading home with a big smile on my face.”

Youth team graduate Luke Trotman, who signed his first professional earlier this season, was named the young player of the season as voted by the Town’s coaching staff.

Alex Lawless’ strike against Southend back in October was voted the Hatters’ goal of the season, while the Ian Pearce memorial trophy will be shared between Mark Cullen and Luke Guttridge after both won three man-of-the-match awards at home games this season.

Town supporter Nigel Martin was also presented with the Trust in Luton outstanding contribution to Luton Town award.
