Doyle demands Town put Exeter defeat behind them

Hatters midfielder Nathan Doyle has demanded his side put Good Friday’s gut-wrenching 3-2 defeat against Exeter City out of their minds ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Tranmere Rovers.

The former Bradford player saw Town throw away a 2-0 lead to lose to virtually the last kick, stretching their run of losses to an alarming seven.

But with a trip to Prenton Park coming in no time at all, Doyle said: “We’ve got to put that behind us, kick on and try and get a result at Tranmere.

“We can’t change anything about that, we can only look ahead to Monday, go up to Tranmere, fully recovered and try and get a result.

“We’ve got to prepare right and get a result there.”

Although there were rumours regarding the future of manager John Still when he was over an hour late for his post match press conference on Friday, Doyle felt the players had to take responsibility.

He continued: “It’s not good enough from the players really. We need to stay mentally strong to get that win to kick us back on.

“Players are going to have to change that around. We’ve been working hard on the training ground and the gaffer and staff have been putting in tremendous efforts behind the scenes to get that result.

“I’m sure once we get the result, we’ll get another one.”

Although Tranmere have struggled this season, currently sitting in the relegation zone, Doyle believes his side still have it within themselves to reignite a faltering play-off push.

He added: “No game’s easy. You see results now popping up that are unusual, teams like Hartlepool are coming into form.

“It’s a six game season for us, we can only take one game at a time. The gaffer and staff will do the research on Tranmere, go up there in good spirits and try and get the result.

“If we were playing badly and losing then you hold your hands up, but every game is a cup final. That (Exeter) has gone now and you can just look forward and prepare for Tranmere.
