Doyle faces late fitness test

Luton Town boss John Still is going to give midfielder Nathan Doyle as much time as possible to prove his fitness ahead of Saturday’s visit of Hartlepool United.

The 28-year-old was forced off during the first half of Tuesday’s goalless draw at Dagenham and Redbridge, but Still insists there are more than adequate replacements should he be unavailable.

Speaking at his press conference on Thursday, Still said: “We’ll know Friday if Doyle will be fit, he didn’t train today (Thursday) as he was still a bit sore, but he is feeling better now than he was.

“It might have been because he was out for a long time before, and sometimes you have a problem with another muscle in the recovery but we’ll check him before Saturday.

“But if we haven’t got him we haven’t got him. We’ve had this all season with people out so we’ll just worry about what we have got.”

Still also confirmed other midfielders Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu and Alex Lawless will still need some time before they can feature this campaign, as well as goalkeeper Mark Tyler.

He confirmed: “Pelly has had an injection to calcify his bone in the hamstring, so hopefully that will rejuvenate that and he’ll be back soon.

“For Lawless we can do nothing until it (shingles) starts to clear up, I’m not sure when that will be. I feel for him though as he one of us, if I had to go to war tomorrow and I had to pick one, Lawless would be one of them for sure.

“Tyler still has a bit of a problem kicking distances, and so he has had another injection that we’re hoping might cure that. However Elliott Justham has done very well for us since coming in, he has been a positive of recent weeks for sure.”
