Doyle: Pelly’s absence was a huge blow

Midfielder Nathan Doyle believes the absence of Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu was a huge blow for the Hatters this season.

The 22-year-old former West Ham United player was in barnstorming form during the early part of the campaign before a variety of injuries struck.

It meant Ruddock Mpanzu only played twice since the end of November and that was keenly felt by Doyle.

He said: “Pelly Ruddock’s been massively missed this year. When I first came I thought what a player he is.

“So for him to get the injury that he had is unfortunate.

That view was echoed by fellow midfielder Jonathan Smith too, while Doyle also believes if Luton can avoid the injuries that decimated their squad at times last term, it will create some healthy competition for places heading into the new campaign.
