The recent signing has been working on his fitness since penning a permanent deal at Kenilworth Road after he was released by Bradford City in the summer.

Doyle, who lasted 67 minutes, said: “It was great to be back in the thick of things.

“The team did well, was excellent from back to front and it’s nice playing in a team where there’s a clean sheet and a victory.

“It’s not easy when you miss pre-season. You’re always playing catch up, doing a little bit extra in training, trying to play as many games as you can to get you to the place where you can do 90 minutes.

“The staff here have been brilliant and they’ve worked well with me over the last two or three weeks to get me to where I need to be.

“I feel fitter than when I first came to the club, I’m not going to be where the others lads are, but I feel I’m ready for selection.

“The more I play the fitter I’ll get and the better I’ll get as well.”

Doyle was alongside Jonathan Smith and Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu in the centre of midfield and had high praise for his team-mates.
