Drury hopes Argyle goal is first of many

Drury, who signed for £100,000 from Crawley in the summer, was yet to hit the target on his second spell with Luton, although had been coming closer and closer in recent weeks.

When Nathan Doyle’s shot fell into his path though, Drury showed all his undoubted quality to coolly sidefoot into the bottom corner for a first goal since April 18, 2014.

On his drought, he said: “It couldn’t last forever, so it’s really pleasing and means a lot, but would have meant nothing to me if we hadn’t won.

“I’ve had a few chances of late and it’s not gone in, so hopefully I can build on that and start chipping in with a few more.

“I did see a little opening in the far corner, and I’ve just smashed one and its got rebounded, so I thought I’d just try and place it.”

Team-mate Jake Howells was delighted to see the midfielder open his account for the campaign, as he said: “He deserved it more than anyone and it’s good for him to get his first goal since coming back.

“He’s been playing really well in that position behind the striker, so to get a goal, hopefully he can kick on now and get a few more.

“It looked like it went through a few bodies, but it doesn’t matter, it’s his goal and we won 1-0.”
