Essam believes Tamworth win could be turning point

Town defender Connor Essam believes that the 2-1 win at Tamworth recently could be the turning point for Luton’s season, writes Mike Simmonds.

Hatters hadn’t won their three previous matches prior to the trip to the Lamb, but came out on top with a hard-fought victory in atrocious conditions.

Essam said: “We had a couple of disappointing results before, it wasn’t the best game but it was a massive result and could be the turning point we needed.”

Town made it back-to-back victories with a 3-1 win over Southport on Saturday, but Essam felt there was plenty to work on after gifting the visitors a way back into the match.

He said: “We started off really well, that was our plan, get out of the blocks quickly and we seemed to take our foot off the pedal once we got the first goal which we need to work on on the training ground.

“We need to make sure we’re at them for the whole game, we know we’ve got enough talent in the dressing room to pull a goal back.

“We’re disappointed for them to equalise, but we had sustained a massive amount of pressure at that time.”

Boss Paul Buckle had stern words with his side at the break as Essam added: “He was disappointed with us because he was delighted with the way we started.

“It was just the way we took our foot off the pedal and let them back in the game.

“We should have scored another couple of goals in that period and really put the game out of sight, but we came out well in second half and maintained that.”
