Former Luton midfielder Jacob Butterfield has joined ex-Hatters team-mate Callum McManaman in signing for Australian A-League side Melbourne Victory.

The 30-year-old left Kenilworth Road in the summer after spending just one season with Town, playing 17 times and scoring once.

He becomes Victory’s second overseas signing of the pre-season, joining McManaman who agreed to join earlier this month, as speaking to the club's official website, Butterfield said: "I’m really pleased to have signed with Melbourne Victory, it is a club with a proud history and such a big following.

“Grant Brebner (head coach) outlined his vision for the team and the role he wants me to play, and I’m really excited to have the opportunity to play for the Victory members and fans.

“I’m looking forward to moving to Melbourne.

"I can’t wait to meet my new team-mates and all the staff, and with the start of the season not far away, getting stuck into pre-season training.”

Victory head coach Brebner added: "We are extremely pleased to have Jacob join us at Melbourne Victory.

“Jacob is another strong addition to our playing group.

"He is a good age and brings a wealth of experience having played in the Championship for a number of big clubs.

“He is known for working extremely hard box-to-box, he has a presence on the ball and is also a proven goalscorer.

“We are looking to build on the foundations we established at the end of last season.

"We have made some good progress during the pre-season and we believe Jacob and Callum will compliment what we are building at the club.”
